Westport Winery 2012 Jetty Cat Red Wine, Columbia Valley, $28
A wide-ranging blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from the Horse Heaven Hills, Sangiovese and Tempranillo from the Yakima Valley and burly Petite Sirah off the steamy Wahluke Slope picks up an enjoyable about of oak treatment for a rich and rewarding drink. Dark toast, chocolate, sarsaparilla aromas are joined by black raspberry and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. The fluid presents a rich entry of blackberry syrup and blueberry jam, backed by dried herbs, pomegranate acidity and slaty tannins. The Roberts family’s on-premis Farm to Fork Restaurant suggests a marriage with Italian Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms, and proceeds from every bottle help the Harbor Association of Volunteers for Animals.
