Doug Long established his reputation in the U.S. wine industry while in Napa before retiring in Washington state. Retirement didn’t sit well with him, so more than a decade ago he partnered with Gig Harbor neighbor Dick Shaw to plant on Red Mountain. This product of a historically cool vintage opens with aromas of black currant, President plum, black licorice, molasses and black olive. Those dark purple fruit tones carry over into the flavors, led by Marionberry, making for a bold and juicy approach with assertive tannins and nice balance.
