Aubichon Cellars 2012 Vista Hills Pinot Gris, Dundee Hills, $30
Jim Sanders creates and collaborates under the Joléte and Le Cadeau brands as well as this label, a partnership with Le Cadeau vineyard owner Tom Mortimer. He makes just one white wine for Aubichon, and it shows remarkable balance with a style that’s barrel aged for 10 months in 50 percent new French oak. Fruit-driven aromas of dried apricot, white peach, Gala apple, gooseberry and lemongrass also pick up hints of toasted pine nuts and blanched almonds. The palate doesn’t show an abundance of oak either, leading with starfruit and Asian pear and following with enjoyable citrus notes of lime juice and orange pith before a finish of white pepper and almond. Look for this brand in Dundee at the Le Cadeau Tasting Room near the Inn at Red Hills.
