Westport Winery 2012 Discovery Vineyard Nirvana, Horse Heaven Hills, $45
The Roberts family is proud of their new relationship with Discovery Vineyard owners Milo and Kay May, and they’ve featured their Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah in this high-end blend with a label depicts Carrie Roberts learning to swim — an image reminiscent of the cover of grunge music icon Nirvana’s second album, Nevermind. Aromas of roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate pick up dusty boysenberry, grilled meat and portobella mushroom will put you on a plain. It’s thick, dark and bold with plum and blackberry jam flavors, backed by pomegranate, blueberry seed tannin and notes of coffee-flavored ice cream. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this benefits the Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee, who grew up in the Grays Harbor town of Aberdeen, Wash.
