“Late, but ripe” aptly describes the vintage and this resulting estate product developed by the father/daughter team of Harry and Wynne Peterson-Nedry. A barrel program of 36% new oak leads to smoky and toasty aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry, crushed herbs, ground savory and a hint of saddle leather. Next comes a racy entry of Rainier cherry and raspberry flavors joined by pomegranate and white strawberry. Lipsmacking acidity and abundant yet fine-grained tannins combine for pleasing length and an ageworthy structure. Comparisons to the 1999 and 2008 vintages have been made, and at this point, they seem appropriate.
