Patterson Cellars 2013 Forbidden White, Columbia Valley, $18
By Great Northwest Wine on October 1, 2014
Woodinville vintner John Patterson creates develops unique blends under his Forbidden series, and they have some pedigree to them. In the case of this blend of Chardonnay (35%), Marsanne (19%) Sauvignon Blanc (13%), Pinot Gris (12%), Roussanne (11%) and Viognier, the vineyards include Boushey, Ciel du Cheval, den Hoed, Dineen, SageCliff and Underwood. Some lots of this fourth edition saw some barrel, and that shows a bit in the nose of pineapple, pear, dried apricot, candy corn with just a whiff of toast and white pepper. Its entry is rich and bold with more pineapple and Jonagold apple flavors, yet there’s good orangy acidity to make for a big finish.
