Chelan Estate 2009 Estate Vineyard Merlot, Lake Chelan, $23
By Great Northwest Wine on October 21, 2014
Chelan, Wash., winemaker/owner Bob Broderick has released one of the more fascinating wines of the year with this five-year-old estate Merlot bottling. Behind the fruity aromas of smoky plum, blackberry and red currant are notes of eucalyptus, cola nut, paprika, chili powder, saddle leather and singed Zig-Zag paper. There’s even more ripeness of black fruit on the palate with blackberry jam and cassis, backed by nicely balanced plum skin tannins and blueberry acidity.
Rating: Excellent
