Airfield Estates 2012 Malbec, Yakima Valley, $28
By Great Northwest Wine on November 6, 2014
Prosser, Wash., winemaker Marcus Miller uses Malbec from his family’s Airfield Ranches Vineyard in a number of his red blends, but he also spotlights the Bordeaux variety with this bottling. Inviting aromas of black cherry, plum, boysenberry syrup, brown sugar and walnut transition to rich flavors of Chelan cherry, boysenberry, lime peel and fresh-cut celery. Its mild tannin, rush of acidity and touch of minerality bode well for suggested pairings with barbecued meat or Cajun-inspired foods.
