Master blender Brian Carter takes a “Right Bank” angle with his five-grape Bordeaux blend that leads with Merlot (52%) and one that he formerly called L’Etalon. Solstice (47%) and StoneTree (41%) vineyards provide the building blocks for a foundation that is showing no signs of slowing down. Classic aromas of black currant, blackberry and dusty cherry are joined by anise, tar and a pine forest. Those same black fruits emerge and swirl with a long and lovely finish of licorice and bittersweet chocolate. The chewy tannins are meant for well-marbled meats. Last year, we also gave the younger 2009 Le Coursier our top rating, but this shows a bit more gusto.
