Stoller Family Estate 2011 Helen’s Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills, $70
There might be a little more pressure on Melissa Burr with the three Legacy tier wines — Cathy, Helen and Nancy — small-lot projects named for women whom have played major roles in the life of owner Bill Stoller. This four-barrel selection from Wadensvil clones planted in 1997, two years after the vineyard was established, is named after his aunt. Its fruit-forward approach leads with aromas of boysenberry, dark cherry and plum as the oak influence adds tar and allspice. On the pour, it’s more boysenberry with white strawberry and pomegranate, creating bright acidity on the midpalate leading to a finish of blueberry skins and dried currant. These wines are built to age, yet this shows beautifully already.
