Pacific Rim Winemakers 2013 Hahn Hill Vineyard Chenin Blanc, Yakima Valley, $13
Best Buy! A decade ago, this lovely Loire Valley grape had lost support in the Pacific Northwest. Fortunately, a number of serious producers seem dedicated to showcasing it again, and the team of Nicolas Quille and Steven Sealock in West Richland, Wash., are going the extra steps to offer it as a vineyard-designate. Vines into their fifth decade of life offer up bright aromas of alyssum blossom, kiwi, honeydew melon, lemon and souk spices. The floral notes make their way to palate, which is luscious with flavors of Honeycrisp apple, orange and lemongrass. A touch of citrus pith and its dry approach (0.9% residual sugar) make it friendly with shellfish, grilled fish, soft cheeses and Middle Eastern food.
