Three Wives Wines 2012 Lone Madrone Vineyard Pinot Noir, Oregon, $20
McMinnville winemaker Remy Drabkin developed her Three Wives brand at the same time she launched Remy Wines, which are focused on Italian varieties. (Three Wines refers to a rather entertaining family fishing story from Alaska). In 2009, her parents created Lone Madrone Vineyard in the Dundee Hills between Stoller and Sokol Blosser, and those 8 acres of Pinot Noir seem to have thrived quickly. Warm aromas of black cherry, blueberry and chai spices include cocoa and sandalwood. Those dark fruity and exotic notes push onto the palate with flavors of blackberry pie, plum, chocolate and vanilla. Pliable tannins are joined by blueberry acidity and savory herbs in the finish. This spring, look for the 2013 vintage of this wine to be released and called “Giulio,” which serves as a tribute to both her father and late father-in-law. And she increased that bottling by 25 percent.
