Dana Roberts creates about styles of wine for his family’s multi-faceted business along Grays Harbor near Aberdeen, Wash., and nearly 20 of those include blends of fruit juice other than grape. This uses Gewürztraminer and blueberry, and the origin of the name starts with a family dessert called Huckleberry Grunt. Indeed, at one point, Dana’s blend included huckleberry. The latest version is reminiscent of black raspberry, vanilla bean, spearmint, cocoa and Campari. The flavors of blueberry, along with hints of huckleberry and dark plum, are luscious and sweet, checking in at 13% residual sugar. Bright acidity of the blueberry juice gives it pleasing balance and makes it quite a quaffer. A portion of the proceeds is donated to the Grays Harbor Ducks Unlimited chapter.
