AniChe Cellars 2012 Sirius, Horse Heaven Hills $28
Rachael Horn established AniChe Cellars in the hills just west of the White Salmon River with a view of the Columbia River and Hood River, Ore., below. However, much of the vision for her wines begins in the Horse Heaven Hills, and she’s developed a exceptional reputation with racy red blends, including her popular Italian-themed creation with Barbera (60%), Zinfandel (25%) and Dolcetto. Bright red currant and raspberry aromas pick up some oak toast, and the palate turns a bit darker with black currant, black cherry and cocoa powder for a rich and delicious drink that quickly became a fan-favorite — as well as Horn’s “pizza wine.” It also earned a silver medal at the fall Columbia Gorge Wine Competition.
