Fujishin Family Cellars 2012 Amatino Red Blend, Snake River Valley, $22
By Great Northwest Wine on April 9, 2015
Rhône varieties thrive in the high-elevation climate of Idaho’s Snake River Valley, and Martin Fujishin again proves that with his proprietary blend of co-fermented Syrah (80%) and Viognier (5%) with Petite Sirah (15%) from Polo Cove and Bitner vineyards along the Sunnyslope Wine District. Its dense nose carries whiffs of Marionberry, plum and blueberry with cola, black olive, black pepper and a mist of Grey Flannel. The palate features blackberry, black currant and dark cherry, backed by pomegranate acidity and firm tannins. Suggested pairings include Snake River Farms beef, wild game and tomato-based pasta.
