Apex Cellars 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $30
By Great Northwest Wine on April 28, 2015
One of Washington’s more historic brands takes advantage of the stellar 2012 vintage, but doesn’t take advantage of the consumer as Precept tripled the production of this Cabernet Sauvignon yet trimmed the price by three bucks. Prosser’s Ron Bunnell, one of several talented winemakers to bottle for the Apex Cellars label, created aromas of black cherry, black currant, dark chocolate and mint with notes of coffee, cedar and minerality. Inside, there’s a smooth delivery of Marionberry, elderberry and plum, backed by slaty, mouthfilling tannins, blueberry acidity and mint chocolate.
Rating: Excellent
Production: 2,212 cases
Alcohol: 14.5%
