VanArnam Vineyards 2012 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Yakima Valley, $55
By Great Northwest Wine on May 22, 2015
Kent and Allison VanArnam launched their winery in the Yakima Valley town of Zillah as Reflection Vineyards and established their young vineyard in the lower elevations of the Rattlesnake Hills. This estate Cab marks the transition to their new eponymous brand, and they’ve chosen a wine worthy of such a debut. Kent’s work with free-run juice and 22 months in French barrels leads to aromas of toasted marshmallow, fresh-pulled espresso, cherries and black tea followed by flavors of Chukar Cherries, dark plums and caramel. Focused chocolaty tannins with a hint of toasted almond make for an elegant finish.
