Purple Star Wines 2013 Sauvignon Blanc, Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley, $12

purple-star-wines-sauvignon-blanc-2013-labelBest Buy! Kyle Johnson, who created some of Washington’s top wines from Rhône varieties while with Olsen Estates, continues to build his reputation with crisp, cool-climate whites under his young brand in Benton City. Here, he works with Caliche Lake Vineyard near the Gorge Amphitheater — the source of his award-winning Riesling. Aromas of Golden Delicious apple, Asian pear, lime juice and straw lead to elegant, bright and luscious flavors of grapefruit, Jonagold apple and more lime. It produced a silver medal at the 2015 Seattle Wine and Food Experience Wine Awards, and at a virtually bone-dry at 0.15% residual sugar, this is a perfect wine for seafood or roasted chicken.
