Telaya Wine Co., 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $35
By Great Northwest Wine on May 30, 2015
Red Mountain is the birthplace for many of the Pacific Northwest’s top Cabernet Sauvignon, and Idaho winemaker Earl Sullivan pulls from Scootney Flats — one of Washington’s emerging vineyards — works with Fidelitas vintner Charlie Hoppes for his Cab. The barrel program of 22 months in French oak helps to develops aromas of espresso, dark plum, blueberry and sarsaparilla. An array of black currant, blueberry and plum explodes with flavors upon entry, backed by plum skin tannins that bloom on the midpalate and finished with huckleberry acidity as it presents itself as an incredibly fruit-driven wine.
