Last year, the Shulls welcomed a record crop of this Eastern European white grape they planted in 2001 at Adalfo’s Block in their Tuscowallame Vineyard, and the call for the pick from the 1.5-acre section came Oct. 5 at less than 22 Brix. It’s reminsicent of some fruit-forward Sauvignon Blanc with hints of gooseberry pie, fresh-cut Honeycrisp apple, Lemonhead candy, spearmint and lime zest. There’s nice tension to the acidity as the finish of Key lime hangs and hangs. It’s moderate alcohol, dry approach and that racy acidity will serve this well with Thai cuisine, spicy fare or freshly shucked oysters.
