Hard Row to Hoe Vineyards 2013 Nauti Buoy White Wine, Lake Chelan, $22
Don Phelps harvested his Riesling (88%) and Gewurztraminer from their certified sustainable Glacial Gravels Vineyard rather late in the season — Nov. 13 — and wife Judy turned it into a stunningly delicious and complex drink. The nose of nectarine and Gala apple also picks up hints of honey, shaved almond, cinnamon and a twist of lemon. On the palate, there’s a continuous build up of peach and Pink Lady apple flavors, backed by minerality and lingering pink grapefruit acidity to balance touch of residual sugar (1.6%). Their wines are available at their Lake Chelan tasting room near Manson and now also at their tasting parlor in Leavenworth.
