Stoller Family Estate 2013 Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills, $30
A product of a problematic vintage, Melissa Burr began the harvest for this wine at a record early date of Sept. 13, only to be interrupted by torrential rains. This large-production Pinot Noir proves that she persevered, and the experience starts with aromas of blackberry, cherry and raspberry, backed by white lavender, vanilla and Almond Roca. Fruit flavors of Marionberry, black cherry and raspberry lead to a structure of sandy, blueberry-skin tannins that offers pleasing richness and length with a juicy finish of cranberry. Suggested pairings range from cedar-planked salmon with a tarragon aioli, pulled pork with cherry chutney and pickled onions, creamed morel mushrooms with shallots and hard cheeses such as Gruyère de Comté.
