Pinot Noir from estate blocks in the hills west of the Oregon state capital is the focus of Florent Merlier, but this native of Burgundy also has established a tantalizing track record with dry Riesling from Dundee Hills sites Meyer and Wascher. A fruit bowl of aromas includes pear, Mandarin orange, Uncola and caramel apple, as well as a hint of a dusty country lane. Next are bright flavors of Asian pear and Granny Smith apple, joined by baking spices, bracing tangelo acidity and a long finish of minerality and gravel. This wine is scheduled to be released in August. Fortunately, they’ve increased production a bit from the 2013 vintage.
