At one time, founding winemaker John Danielson, an Idaho native, had this brand linked to a small estate vineyard in Vale, Ore., west of the Snake River along the Oregon Trail. His Merlot creates aromas of dark cherry, espresso, chalkboard dust and earthiness, followed by a rich, round and expressive delivery of Chelan cherries and cassis flavors. Smooth tannins and bright acidity help to give this an enjoyable, food-friendly finish. These wines are available at Hat Ranch Winery as well as the Boise Co-op wine shop.
