Jones of Washington 2012 Estate Reserve Malbec, Wahluke Slope, $30
By Great Northwest Wine on September 13, 2015
Perhaps Washington’s warmest growing region has no problem ripening Bordeaux varieties for the Jones family, and winemaker Victor Palencia uses some Syrah (13%) to build mouth feel. The reserve approach begins with barrel notes of roasted coffee and toasted popcorn with black plums, blackberry, black olive and vanilla. Its approachable structure brings smooth and dark flavors of black cherry and black currant, backed by chocolate-covered pomegranate, juicy acidity and a touch of earthiness.
