Ponzi Vineyards 2014 Pinot Blanc, Willamette Valley, $20
This ranks as one of the largest productions of this under-appreciated white Burgundy grape, which has as much more appreciative Pacific Northwest audience in British Columbia as a sublime alternative to Pinot Gris. Luisa Ponzi works with her family’s 80-acre Aurora Vineyard as well as Thistle Vineyard in the Dundee Hills and Zenith Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills. Its theme is a pleasant one of lemon peel, dusty Gala apple, spearmint, stevia and river rock, which is finished by a dash of residual sugar. Thankfully, she increased production by more than 50 percent, so it’s more available than ever beyond her family’s stylish tasting gallery in Sherwood, Ore.
