Rio Vista Wines 2013 Estate Merlot, Columbia Valley, $32
By Great Northwest Wine on October 11, 2015
No winery is closer to the Columbia River than John Little’s, and his stunning riverside location near Lake Chelan explains why he can refer to this bottling as the “Winemaker’s Catch.” It’s a cherry-filled drink that opens with alluring aromas of Hawaiian Fruit Punch, orange oil and bergamot as it leads to delicous flavors of Bing cherry and Montmorency cherry. It’s juicy acidity and restrained tannins make it a lighter-styled Merlot, which helped it merit a silver medal at the 2015 North Central Washington Wine Awards.
