Bitner Vineyards 2011 Reserve Petit Verdot Merlot, Snake River Valley, $26
By Great Northwest Wine on November 7, 2015
Ron Bitner’s viticulture career along Plum Road in the Sunnyslope Wine District began three decades ago with Chardonnay, but he soon branched out, planting several varieties across his estate. Two blocks of Bordeaux reds are the focus in this bold bottling of Petit Verdot (60%) and Merlot (40%). The nose casts out notes of plums on parchment paper, boysenberry, toast, resin, tar and vanilla extract. Inside, it continues to flex its muscles as flavors of plums, pomegranate and Montmorency cherry bring plenty of grip and a touch of green peppercorns. Enjoy now with cuts of well-marbled beef or a plate of charcuterie and Graber Olives.
