This British Columbia brand with tasting rooms near Penticton and not far from Bellingham, Wash., continues to evolve and expand, allowing winemaker Mary McDermott to create three styles of Chardonnay. Here, she straddles between her reserve and unoaked tiers by bringing fruit Sept. 26 from Sundial Vineyard on the hot Black Sage Bench and 10 days later from Gill Vineyard not far from the Naramata Bench winery. She made it an even 50/50 split between stainless steel and oak barrel fermentations, setting the table for aromas of facial powder, Gala apple and pear butter. Inside, it’s juicy with Key lime and Granny Smith apple flavors amid the partially rounded midpalate. Ruby Red grapefruit pith adds to the pleasing finish that will pair deliciously with suggestions such as cedar plank grilled wild salmon, fresh arugula salad or risotto.
