Pacific Rim Winemakers 2014 Spring Creek Vineyard Grüner Veltliner, Yakima Valley, $14
By Great Northwest Wine on December 13, 2015
Best Buy! Steven Sealock doesn’t need to range far from his West Richland, Wash., winery to source this Austrian grape, and little-known Spring Creek Vineyard near Benton City has a reputation of shining with crisp white varieties. The nose is fruit-forward with hints of tangerine, apricot and pineapple and peach. There’s nice firm acidity up front with grapefruit and lime juice. The Asian pear fleshiness on the midpalate is a sign of the six months on the lees in neutral German barrels, which leads to Granny Smith apple peel bite in the back, making for a great shellfish wine at a rather remarkable price.
