SuLei Cellars 2013 Beet Red, Columbia Valley, $30
By Great Northwest Wine on January 2, 2016
One of Walla Walla Valley winemaker Tanya Woodley’s early efforts with her proprietary Beet Red blend came in 2007, when she combined Cabernet Sauvignon (67%) and Syrah. Her latest effort marks a return to that combo and the same ratio; however she reaches beyond nearby Les Collines Vineyard with the inclusion of Gamache Vineyard near the Columbia River. Its plummy nose comes with chocolate-covered blueberry and notes of coffee and black pepper. The pour is round, rich, approachable and youthful with a plump fruit-forward structure of plum, blueberry and Marionberry.
