Finn Hill Winery 2012 Stillwater Creek Vineyard Merveille Merlot, Columbia Valley, $35
By Great Northwest Wine on January 25, 2016
This site in the Frenchman Hills – the estate planting for Novelty Hill just north of the Wahluke Slope – affords Woodinville winemaker Rob Entrekin the tools to create a Merlot that’s far from boring. Aromas of blueberry and black currant pick up hints of charcuterie and mincemeat spice. Inside, there’s a structure of black cherry and currants framed by sandy tannins and bright acidity, leading to a deliciously spicy and meaty finish. It offers a nice contrast to his 2012 Merlot from Gamache Vineyards.
