Weisinger Family Winery 2012 Meadowlark Vineyard Syrah, Rogue Valley , $26
By Great Northwest Wine on February 13, 2016
One of Oregon’s loftiest vineyards at 2,100 feet elevation was established by Ashland art community supporters Bryant and Baiba Calhoun with Rich and Pat Glietsman, and it’s been a source of Rhône varities to area winemakers for more than a decade. In the hands of Ashland’s second-generation winemaker Eric Weisinger, this Syrah leads with aromas of blackberry syrup, plum, black currant and minty chocolate chip. It’s a dark and bold drink of boysenberry and pomegranate, framed by a combination of solid tannins and juicy acidity that provides food-friendly length now with an age-worthy structure.
