Quady North 2012 Steelhead Run Vineyard Syrah, Applegate Valley, $29
By Great Northwest Wine on February 16, 2016
Since Herb Quady came north and landed in Southern Oregon in 2003, he elevated Troon Vineyards, launched his own brand and established a pair of vineyards. Along the way, he’s also developed a vineyard management company that works with a handful of sites, including longtime favorite Steelhead Run. His ever-popular Syrah from this vineyard, first planted in 1993 a stone’s throw from the Applegate River, features clones 470, 877 and Hermitage. It brings aromas of Ovaltine powder and toast with black cherry, caramel and chocolate, followed by dark tones of black cherry and plum. The bold structure finishes with flavors of pomegranate and elderberry.
