Folin Cellars 2013 Estate Grenache, Rogue Valley, $34
Rob Folin and his family grow an acre of this racy red Rhône variety among their 25 acres planted at 1,300 feet elevation near Gold Hill 10 miles north of Medford, Ore. It’s a classic Northwest example, starting with aromas of cranberry, cherry and raspberry with fresh mint and a pinch of clove. The drink flows with delicious flavors of Rainier cherry and raspberry, backed with juicy acidity that easily overtakes the managed tannins, backed by sweet baking spices. He devotes his 1,500-case production to the glass Vino-Seal enclosure, so there’s never a fear of cork taint. They enjoy serving this with Grilled Ratatouille, and the wine is available at their Southern Oregon winery and their tasting room in the Willamette Valley town of Carlton.
