DiStefano Winery 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $38
By Great Northwest Wine on March 20, 2016
Mark Newton, among the early guard of Woodinville winemakers, has been crafting Cabernet Sauvignon since the 1992 vintage, and this bottling focuses on historic Kiona Vineyards along the southern slope of Red Mountain. Lovely aromas of blackberry pie juice, cherry, dark chocolate and toast transcend to flavors of cherry candy and cola framed brightly by cranberry and pomegranate with firm tannins. Don’t go looking for capsules atop the bottles by DiStefano, a recent convert to the eco-friendly movement away from foil.
