Madsen Family Cellars 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, Horse Heaven Hills, $32
Dana Madsen bottles individual versions of Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain and the Horse Heaven Hills, and he’s enjoyed success with both, including this classic Cab from Destiny Ridge Vineyard. The nose is broad and bold with Chukar Cherry, dark plum, fresh fig and black olive. Inside comes a big load of Marionberry, elderberry and plum flavors, supported from behind by substantial tannins and luscious midpalate purple fruit. Juicy acidity and dark chocolate come through the finish. The wines by this member of the South Sound Wine Trail are available at the tasting room just off Interstate 5 in the Washington state capital suburb of Lacey, but Madsen also offers shipping to nine states and the District of Columbia. This earned a silver medal at the Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
