Puget Sound winemaker Micah Nasarow relies on Burgess Vineyard near Pasco, Wash., for this Syrah, and it’s a remarkably complex and balanced expression of the Rhône variety – especially from a hot vintage. There’s a lot of wild game in the nose that leads to black plum, black pepper and black olive aromas. Inside, it’s akin to a berry milkshake on the attack, backed by rich flavors of cherries, black currants and chocolate. Suave tannins joined by savory notes of black olive and anise lead to late acidity from blueberries and rhubarb, making for a delicious finish. Look for this wine at the Renton winery, Top of the Hill in Renton and Cyprus Wine Bar in Bellevue.
