South Puget Sound winemaker Ray Curtis relies on the Columbia Valley for his red wine program, and his work with a classic vintage began in late October at Paul Burgess’ vineyard near Pasco, Wash. Enticing aromas of dark-roasted coffee, blackberry, Red Vines licorice, red bell pepper and mocha lead to sweet cherry flavors on the entry. Huckleberry jelly, firm tannins and boysenberry funnel into a finish of Montmorency cherry and vanilla.
