Maison De Padgett Winery 2012 Funky Monkey Winter Harvest, Rattlesnake Hills, $20
By Great Northwest Wine on May 7, 2016
David Padgett continues his tasty tradition with the Funky Monkey, which he’s created with Pinot Noir, sometimes offering as an ice wine. This “winter harvest” is finished at 14% residual sugar, and its theme screams with blackberry and black cherry. The nose includes golden raisins and vanilla, and the flavors also offer Tootsie Roll and chocolate in the background. While it’s quite sweet, there’s good acidity behind it, making it nicely balanced and quite pleasant. It merited a silver medal at the 2016 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
