A look beyond the label of this Armonea release reveals why visitors to Wine Country Farm in Oregon’s Dundee Hills – and fans of Ken Wright – might fancy this wine. It starts on Savannah Ridge near the town of Carlton where Dave Grooters and Robin Russell established this vineyard, and the winemaker for this project is longtime Ken Wright cellarmaster Alberto Alcazar. He shows skill with Dijon clone 777 fruit from this 10-year-old site, and the aromas cast hints of Bing cherry, President plum, Simpkins Blackcurrant Travel Sweets and ground mustard. Those cherry and currant tones come through on the palate with pleasing balance as the tannin management shows finesse within in a bigger style of Pinot Noir.
