Plaisance Ranch 2013 Papa Joe’s Private Stash Syrah, Applegate Valley, $25
By Great Northwest Wine on May 31, 2016
Joe Ginet, whose French forefathers arrived in Oregon in the 19th century, is emerging as one of Southern Oregon’s most exciting winemakers. Using grapes from the fascinating and little-understood Applegate Valley, he has crafted a Syrah with elegance and power. Aromas of espresso, dark chocolate and blackberry lead to plush flavors of blueberry sauce, maple syrup and ripe plum. Pliable tannins provide the balance without getting in the way of the luscious fruit. This earned a gold medal at the 2016 Cascadia Wine Competition.
