Columbia Gorge vintner Robb Bell continues his string of success with this Italian red as his latest vintage seems on par with 2012 and 2013 bottlings that earned gold medals at competitions along the West Coast. The brooding nose of dark plum, black figs and macerated cherry includes a touch of barrel spice. On the attack, it’s almost syrupy with plump blueberry and black currant jam flavors. Pomegranate acidity and plum skins sit on a nice platform of tannins that leads to a Bing cherry finish. Fortunately, yields at the Bolton family’s site allowed for the Hood River winery to increase production by more than 40 percent from the 2013 vintage.
