Westport Winery Garden Resort 2015 Message in a Bottle, Yakima Valley, $27
Last year, the Roberts family shifted its rosé program from Syrah to Grosso clone Sangiovese, and they collaborated with their friend – Mike Sauer of vaunted Red Willow Vineyard in the eastern foothills of Mount Adams on this continuing project. Its light cherry/dark salmon color opens the window to aromas of watermelon, Rainier cherry and red licorice with sweet herbs, seashells and dusty huckleberry. Inside, it’s bright and lovely with flavors of strawberry jam and a cherry tart with crust. Elegant golden raspberry acidity supplies balance to its off-dry approach (0.7% residual sugar) and rounded mouth feel, making for delicious length. At their on-premise Farm to Fork Restaurant and Bakery in Westport, they suggest enjoying this with Black and Bleu Salad. Proceeds of this wine are donated to the West Coast Search Dogs of Washington, regardless of you purchase it at the showpiece property near Grays Harbor or their new tasting room in Cannon Beach, Ore.
