Often hailed as Idaho’s best winemaker, Cinder co-owner Melanie Krause is making her reputation — and perhaps that of Idaho — with this Spanish variety. This is another great example from the Garden City winery, pulling from three vineyards, Martin Brothers, Sawtooth and Williamson. It releases aromas of bright red fruit, including raspberry and Rainier cherry, followed by flavors of high-toned red fruit and a hint of dusty earthiness. It’s all beautifully balanced and backed by smooth tannins, making for delicious pairings with roasted lamb, chorizo or wild mushroom risotto. And for the second straight year, Cinder’s Tempranillo earned a gold medal and best of class at the 2016 Idaho Wine Competition.
