Kitsap Peninsula chiropractor Brian Petersen knows how to massage the tannins in his red Bordeaux program at Mosquito Fleet Winery, and his latest Petit Verdot might be his best example to date. A 22-month barrel program in 30% new French oak develops toasty aromas of nutmeg and clove with dusty black cherry and Aussie-style black licorice. There’s a massive delivery of black plum, cherry and chocolate flavors that’s bold, rich yet balanced. Huckleberry acidity and vanilla flourish in the finish. This has grabbed two gold medals in the first half of 2017 – the Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition followed by the international Cascadia judging. And it’s available at select QFC, Metropolitan Markets, Town & Country and Albertsons as well as a few bottle shops around the Puget Sound.
