Airfield Estates 2013 Aviator Red Wine, Yakima Valley, $30
The Miller family continues to blend its Aviator as a Left Bank Bordeaux-style wine, and it ranks among Airfield Estates’ most decorated wines, including a silver medal at the prestigious 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards in London. Marcus Miller led it with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (26%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Petit Verdot (2%) and Malbec (2%). His investment of 22 months in French oak builds the complex nose of dark toast, black currant and pomegranate along with fresh dill and bubble gum. It is juicy with flavors of pomegranate, elderberry and blueberry, framed by frontal and firm tannins that create an age-worthy wine.
