Cedar River Cellars 2014 Bella Bella Syrah, Columbia Valley, $32

By on August 19, 2017

A proud product of Oregon State University’s food science program, Micah Nasarow is using grapes from Eastern Washington to help create a wine culture in Seattle suburb of Renton. His focus here is Burgess Vineyard in Pasco, and one might think he pulled from The Rocks District with its savory and earthy nose of charcuterie, tapénade and toast after 20 months in a pair of neutral French barrels. There are rewarding flavors of black currant and boysenberry that swirl in plush tannins that lead out with a melange of fennel, ansie and mincemeat spices. Look for the Cedar River wines at the Cypress Lounge and Wine Bar at the Bellevue Westin and in Renton at All Things Wine, The Wine Alley, Top of the Hill and the winery.
