Henry Earl Estates 2015 Quintessence Vineyard Malbec, Red Mountain, $45
By Great Northwest Wine on May 4, 2018
Quintessence Vineyard spans 313 acres along the northeast boundary of the Red Mountain American Viticultural Area, and Dick and Wendy Shaw’s tandem of acclaimed viticulturist Marshall Edwards and winemaker Mitch Venohr bring this four-barrel lot of Malbec to glorious life for sale in their downtown Walla Walla tasting room. It is hugely expressive as dusty minerality aromas are joined by blueberry, black cherry, black pepper, tar and smoky rosemary. Huge flavors of ripe black cherry and juicy blueberry are deeply layer. The structure features acidity over tannin, capped by cooked strawberry and dark chocolate in the finish.
