Spiral Rock Vineyard 2017 Riesling, Lewis-Clark Valley, $18
By Great Northwest Wine on March 6, 2019

One of Idaho’s youngest plantings got its start in 2014 with a single acre of Riesling by Stuart Davis and Shane Hyde. Davis, the winemaker, works with vines planted along a breathtaking slope at 1,200 feet elevation high above the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater rivers. This marks the debut vintage of Riesling grown along the Old Spiral Highway, and it takes a dramatically dry and approach that makes for a refreshing drink of citrus and stone fruit. Fortunately, Davis and his wife, Becky, tripled production from the 2018 vintage.
